Meltwater has no public price list, but its own blog gives starting points: Starter from 10,000 USD a year, Pro from 25,000 and Enterprise from 130,000 (July 2026). Buyers report a median of 25,800 USD a year (Vendr, February 2026). Contracts run at least 12 months and renew automatically unless cancelled 60 days ahead.
Key takeaways
- 10,000 USD a year is the published floor, for the Starter plan (Meltwater blog, July 2026). Pro starts at 25,000 USD and Enterprise at 130,000 USD.
- 25,800 USD is the median buyers pay, with contracts from 5,375 to 56,993 USD (Vendr, February 2026).
- 12 months minimum, 36 months standard. Invoiced upfront once a year, payable in 14 days, not refundable.
- Renewal is automatic at the prices of the day unless you give written notice 60 days before the end of the term, and Meltwater tells customers to expect a rate increase at each renewal.
- If you only send press releases, you are paying for monitoring and social listening you may not use.
Meltwater plans and starting prices
Meltwater's pricing page shows four plans and a "Contact Sales" button on each. The starting prices come from a July 2026 post on Meltwater's blog, which calls them indicative. Capterra lists the same figures.
| Plan | Starting price | What it includes | AI and API |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | from 10,000 USD a year | Media intelligence, social listening, AI visibility tracking, media relations | Mira AI |
| Pro | from 25,000 USD a year | The same four capabilities, with more depth | Mira AI Advanced |
| Enterprise | from 130,000 USD a year (120,000 in the same post's FAQ) | The four capabilities plus influencer marketing | Mira AI Enterprise-grade, API and MCP integrations |
| Agency | Quote only | Influencer marketing included; Starter, Growth and Enterprise Agency tiers | Depends on tier |
Media relations, the journalist database and outreach tools, is included in every plan. Influencer marketing only comes with Enterprise and Agency. The blog post contradicts itself on Enterprise, 130,000 USD in the plan list and 120,000 USD in its FAQ.
What Meltwater customers actually pay
| Source | Measure | Figure | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vendr (February 2026) | Median contract | 25,800 USD a year | Low 5,375 USD, high 56,993 USD, from 126 purchases; renewal increases of 3 to 7% a year |
| SpendHound (updated 22 September 2026) | Average, companies of 50 to 1,000 employees | 13,275 USD a year | 160 Meltwater customers in the sample |
| SpendHound (updated 22 September 2026) | Average, companies of 1,000+ employees | 65,020 USD a year | Same sample |
| UK Digital Marketplace (May 2024) | UK public sector list price, 10 users | 22,800 GBP a year | 32,700 GBP for 15 users; Meltwater says public bodies get a discount |
| Prowly Magazine (a competitor) (3 June 2025) | Typical range reported by a competitor | 15,000 to 20,000 USD a year | Prowly sells a competing product |
The spread is the useful information: two companies can pay 5,000 or 57,000 USD a year for what looks like the same product. The difference is modules, users, term and negotiation, which is why the steps below matter more than the list price.
The contract, in Meltwater's own terms
- Minimum term: 12 months (meltwater.com (25 September 2026)). The standard term offered is 36 months (Meltwater community (8 January 2026)).
- Renewal: the subscription renews for a term of the same length "at Meltwater's then-current prices" unless written notice of non-renewal arrives "at least sixty (60) days prior" to the end (meltwater.com (version of 5 April 2025, 25 September 2026), section 7.2). The UK and French terms use the same wording.
- Discounts: special pricing and payment terms apply to the initial term only (section 7.2).
- Payment: invoiced annually upfront, payable within 14 days; payment obligations cannot be cancelled and fees are not refunded (section 6.1).
- Price at renewal: Meltwater staff write that customers "can expect a rate increase" at each annual renewal (Meltwater community (8 January 2026)).
- Onboarding: there "may be a one-time implementation or onboarding charge", and there is no self-serve free trial (meltwater.com (25 September 2026)).
Hidden costs
- Onboarding fee: 2,000 to 10,000 USD according to Vendr.
- Modules: Vendr lists social listening at 10,000 to 30,000 USD a year, media contacts at 5,000 to 15,000 and influencer tools at 10,000 to 25,000.
- Renewal increases: 3 to 7% a year in Vendr's data, on top of first-term discounts that disappear.
- Distribution: the UK public-sector price list charges 500 GBP per newswire release in one country and 2,500 GBP for a global wire (UK Digital Marketplace (May 2024)).
What reviewers report about renewals
Meltwater is well rated by business users: 4.1 out of 5 from 2,674 reviews on G2 and 7.6 out of 10 from 179 on TrustRadius. The complaints that do exist cluster around one subject, the renewal. These are user reviews, unverified, and some are several years old:
- A TrustRadius reviewer (April 2017) writes they went past a 60-day auto-renewal provision and paid another year (TrustRadius (24 April 2017)).
- Trustpilot reviewers from 2023 to 2025 describe being renewed for 12 more months without written cancellation in time, and one Canadian customer reports billing switched from CAD to USD with a price jump of more than 25% (Trustpilot (reviews from 2023 to 2025, 25 September 2026)).
The lesson is the same as the contract: the 60-day window is the one date that decides your next year's budget.
How to negotiate a Meltwater contract
- Write the notice date down the day you sign. The contract renews for the same length, at the prices of the day, unless Meltwater receives written notice at least 60 days before the end of the term (general terms, section 7.2). Put that date in the team calendar with a reminder a month earlier.
- Ask for the renewal terms in the order form. The general terms apply unless your Order Confirmation says otherwise. Ask for opt-in renewal, or a cap on the renewal increase: Meltwater tells customers to expect a rate increase at every renewal, and Vendr sees 3 to 7% a year.
- Price the modules one by one. Vendr lists social listening at 10,000 to 30,000 USD a year, media contacts at 5,000 to 15,000 and influencer tools at 10,000 to 25,000. Drop what the team will not use in the first quarter.
- Compare 12 and 36 months honestly. Meltwater's standard offer is 36 months, with a 12-month minimum. Vendr reports 10 to 20% discounts for multi-year terms, and first-term discounts end at renewal. A longer term buys a lower price and removes your exit.
- Bring a written competing quote. Vendr puts the median Cision contract at 12,625 USD and Muck Rack at 13,000 USD a year (February 2026). A dated quote from either is the benchmark a sales team cannot dismiss.
- Ask about the onboarding fee. Meltwater says there may be a one-time implementation charge; Vendr puts it at 2,000 to 10,000 USD. Ask for it to be waived in exchange for the term you accept.
Who should pay Meltwater prices, and who should not
It makes sense if:
- Monitoring is the main job: press, broadcast, podcasts and social, across several countries, with reports for management.
- Several teams (comms, marketing, social) share the tool, so the cost per user drops.
- You need influencer marketing or API access in the same contract, which means Enterprise.
It does not if:
- What you mainly do is send releases and pitches to journalists. That is a small part of Meltwater and a whole product elsewhere.
- You cannot commit to 12 months, or budget for a renewal increase.
- Your coverage is local or in one country, where lighter monitoring tools cost a fraction.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does Meltwater cost per year?
- Meltwater's own blog gives starting points: Starter from 10,000 USD a year, Pro from 25,000 and Enterprise from 130,000 (July 2026). What buyers actually pay is spread wide: a median of 25,800 USD a year, from 5,375 to 56,993 USD, across 126 purchases tracked by Vendr (February 2026).
- Does Meltwater publish its prices?
- Not on its pricing page, where every plan says "Contact Sales". But a July 2026 post on Meltwater's blog publishes indicative starting prices (10,000, 25,000 and 130,000 USD a year), and Capterra lists the same figures. The real price depends on modules, users and term.
- What is the minimum Meltwater contract?
- Twelve months, according to Meltwater's pricing FAQ. A Meltwater staff answer on its community site (January 2026) says the standard term offered is 36 months. Contracts are invoiced annually upfront and payable within 14 days.
- Does Meltwater renew automatically?
- Yes, by default. Section 7.2 of Meltwater's general terms (April 2025) renews the subscription for a term of the same length at Meltwater's then-current prices, unless one side gives written notice of non-renewal at least 60 days before the end of the term. Your order form can change this, so ask.
- How do I cancel a Meltwater subscription?
- Send written notice of non-renewal at least 60 days before your term ends, as the general terms require, and keep proof it was received. Payments already due cannot be cancelled and fees are not refunded (section 6.1). Several reviewers on TrustRadius and Trustpilot report being renewed after missing that window.
- Is there a Meltwater free trial?
- No. Meltwater's pricing FAQ says it does not offer a self-serve free trial; you get a demo from sales instead.
- Is Meltwater more expensive than Cision or Muck Rack?
- On median contracts, yes: 25,800 USD a year for Meltwater against 12,625 USD for Cision and 13,000 USD for Muck Rack, all from Vendr's February 2026 buyer data. The ranges overlap, so a written quote from each is the only reliable comparison.
- What is a cheaper alternative to Meltwater for press releases?
- If the job is sending releases to journalists rather than monitoring the media, PressPilot sends yours to 100 journalists you choose for 30 EUR, with no contract and nothing to renew. Prowly (258 USD a month billed annually) and Prezly (100 EUR a month) sit in between.
